As a new owner of a 2004 vette,, and unfamillar with them, i was wondering where you place the lift arms of a hoist under veh to raise it. ?? - I WORK IN A CHRY, GARAGE , that has the arms on the lifts that swing in just inside the wheels.-- i was told i need pucks,,, im sure my dealer where i bought it,, doesnt use these,, -- any help would be great.
Hi and congrats on your new toy. If you feel around just in back of the front wheel and just in front of the back wheel you'll notice an indentation in the body/frame. This is where you lift your Vette from. As for the "pucks", there's a lot of companies that make them and they range in price 25 to 50$$$. I use good ole hockey pucks. Ya, ice hockey pucks. They work just fine. Make sure the garage that services your Vette uses something like this when lifting your car or you could have serious problems with the panels cracking at the bottom where they wrap under the rocker panels. Oh, and welcome to the forum!

Written for a C6, but the same rules apply to a C5:
so i do need some kind of puck or lifting piece under there first ??? or is the lift where i work, that has padded pads on the arms enough. -- block of wood ??? lol

If you take a look under your car , you will see that the rocker panels can easily be cracked if some sort of puck is not used to lift the car in the non-preferred locations.
and no....a block of wood is not acceptable north of the Mason-Dixon line.
A block of wood will work fine, as long as you make sure it fits easily into the rocker panel cutouts.
One advantage of wood is that it has less of a tendency to slip around than some of the other materials, especially if you moisten the surface slightly.
As long as the lift is only touching the frame, your ok...but the composite rocker panels are very close to the lifting points, so if the lift sits on those, they will crack...
GM recommends using the pucks at the rear shipping slots. The hole in the rocker panel is to small for most frame lift rubber pads so they end up resting on the rocker. There is enough room at the front shipping slots for frame lift pads to fit but it can be close. It is just a little safer to use 4 instead of 2.
Most body parts on the C5 are easily replaceable but the rocker panel is not one of them. It is glued to the frame.
But you can use the hockey pucks also. Best to drill and screw in an Eye bolt through the center of the hockey puck to insert and twist into the frame hole. That way the puck will not slip out of position (you can see the hole tabs on the fleabay item).
Just don't forget to remove the pucks when you are through (I have, but the Eye bolts kept them in place until I returned to the garage).
