If you pull the plugs out, she'll turn over a lot easer. The only problem is the lifters will have bled down some, reducing the amount of lift you'll see at the valve. This will be especially true if the valve you try to measure was sitting open for a while. A better way would be to remove the rocker arm, and set up the indicator directly against the end of the pushrod. The light spring inside the indicator wont be able to move the piston inside the lifter. If you're careful, you can get a very accurate measurement like this. Just make sure the indicator is in line with the pushrod.

MTI Houston does not exist any more as a performance shop. They started selling cars and dont do any type of auto related work.

If it were my car, I'd sure like to know what cam it had in it. Before beginning though, I'd find a listing of mti cams with intake/exhaust lifts that I could compare my measurements to.

Depends. Do you really want to know the specs? Then no. Are you just a bit worried about the springs? Then yes, get some duals and call it a day

alright, i pulled 2 of the rockers off, int& exh im gettin about .350 at the push rod. so that comes out to be .595 lift at the valve. which is ALOT for stock springs correct?
the car has MTI racing stageII heads, and their stage 2 cams have .581 lift. those are the closet # i can find. i checked the R1, X1, stage 1,2 & 3.

i was spinning the motor backwards, it wouldnt spin clockwise, the belt was just slipping.

somone had rockers in it i believe, they removed the baffles in the covers.

also, what would make a spark plug gap close? detonation?

all the plgus have some oil on the threads, my guess would be because it never had the recall done on the oil rings.

.595 is quite a bit of lift for a stock spring! those beehive springs you have could very well be stock, but of course you can't really be sure just by looking at them. Quite a few aftermarket companies make this style of spring. The next step would be to measure the stiffness of a couple of the springs and compare that to the stock specs. Though, at this point, I would just consider changing them for new ones. You need good set of springs for that cam...you've established that.

No...it looks really white though. *Just talking outa my ****, but maybe its running to hot/lean? I believe a white color can indicate that. I wonder what's been going on in the tuning department...
