Default What engine cradle do I need?

I have an 04 convertible I need to replace the engine cradle. Will all 97-04 engine cradle fit or do I need to look for a specific one for 04.

The parts info I have shows the '97 to '00 uses one part number and beginning in '01 there is another part number. I don't have any info beyond that however, so I don't know if that number continues through '04 or changes somewhere in the '02-'04 range of years again.

I suggest contacting either Fichtner Chev at 1-800-234-5284 (ask for Bob in parts) or check with Gene Culley at GMparts house.com to verify the part number applicability on the '02, '03 and '04 models. From there you can at least know which year (or range of years) you can look at to get a replacement.

One source for good used Corvette parts I have used in the past is Justcorvettes.com in St. Charles, MO, near St. Louis. Speak to Dan. He may have what you're looking for.

it's all about the EBCM mounting holes, the 2001-2004 use the same mounting location

I'm not sure if the earlier cradles will work

This is a great question

Hmmm, not sure if this is the main reason or not since the EBCM on the '97 and '98 models is located in the rear of the car and starting in '99 the EBCM was moved to the front, yet the front cradle is the same part number from '97-'00.

GM prolly stopped production on the 97/8 cradle(if in fact there were no holes back in the day, sometimes they are existing like the HUD points were in 97/8)

that may/may not be an updated part # you are seeing as they delete older parts that fit newer cars(speculation on my part)

Note: it was mid year '98 when the ebcm was moved up front

some more info, L98-00 used 4 mounting points for the ebcm, the 01-04 unit is about half or 2/3 the size using only 2 bolts and also the LHS rack mounting point for the bracket

NOTE: I have NEVER swapped out an earlier cradle into a 2004, but I would "speculate" the 01-04 unit would work

Yup, I'm with you. GM does do part number consolidation from time to time. Pretty common actually. If buying new, there seems to be only one number from '97-'04 according to GMpartsdirect website, but if buying used it's probably best to stick with a later year car ('04 just to be on the safe side or at least an '02 or '03). Also just checked with Bob at Fichtner, and GM made a change in Oct '01 to the current number so that explains why a new one fits all.
