We had a customer with an 04 about 6 months ago with this issue. He was going to try and get it covered under warranty since it was a federal emissions law. I know someone said 80,000 but I believe it is 100,000 miles.

Any way to follow up and see if he got it covered?

We ALL would be interested in whether it is covered under emissions.

The thing is,from the local service manager you get an automatic "no" even though the owners manual says the fuel tank is covered.

Where does it state that the fuel tank is covered under emissions? Also,
dies anyone really know how long the emissions warrenty lasts? I have heard only 60k or 4 years.

I have also been checking with aftermarket warranty sites to get an extended warranty. None of them cover the tanks that i can find. Anyone know of one that does?

The emissions coverage is 8 yrs/80K miles. Yesterday, I had the catalytic convertor on my 03 Tahoe with 72K miles replaced under the emissions warranty. Confirmed the warranty terms with the Service Writer before I took it in for repair. I purchased the truck new on 12/30/02 so it had just gone over 7 years at the end of December.

Warranty Direct covered my gas tank replacement on the '04 A4. Of course, the repair cost me a $200 deductable since I didn't follow all of ET's posts/advice for getting the no deductable policy.

You Bet! But since the car is a daily driver I needed a rental car for a few weeks. This particular repair took COH some time to do since they initially thought it was just an O-ring. But my warranty did pay for itself with that repair.

My owners manual in the back under emmission warranty shows that the fuel tank is covered for 80,000 miles.I also verified it at an EPA site online.GM disagrees because they know it is going to cost them a bundle!

Call GM Customer Assistance Center and see what they say. If its covered they will help you get it fixed and interface with the dealer.

I checked with Westside Chevrolet and they stated that the emission warranty only covers the pcm and the cats. The fuel tanks and system
for the 04 is not covered. If someone can send me something stating otherwise i would be happy to ram it down their throats. But, its back to square one and back in gm's yard.

I just called customer assistance. That was a waste of time.

I was told by them that the emission warranty was not clear on what was covered and that i was to call a dealership to get the final word of what is covered.

Someone that has where it shows the tanks are covered please step forward and post it here.

UPDATE

In the owners warrany assistance booklet, i found what some may be seeing. It is not in your manual.

Emissions: Page 19. 7 years or 70k miles in California *
8 years or 80k miles in the rest of US **

Page 22. Fuel tanks * (1 astrick)
This means that only in California are the fuel tanks covered for 7years or 70k miles. The rest of us are s#^$* out of luck and NOTHING is covered past the original warranty. The fuel feed isnt covered for anyone past the base warranty.

So, this is how it is. Those in California are good to be covered
upto 7/70 if their fuel tanks require replacement.

Thought it was time to put this to bed. Its all upto everyone in the rest of the US to contact and file a complaint.

I thought that since GM went bankrupt, they were safe from all the old lawsuits? The ones for cars made by the "other" company.
