Default 97 C5 shock problems

Hi,
I have a 97 c5 that I want to install belstein shocks to replace the original shocks that came on the car. I got the following readout on my dash. max speed 80 mph-shocks inoperative- Can I replace the computer shocks without to much trouble?
Thanks,

On my 97, all I did was disconnect the shock control box in the rear driver's side compartment and I never got a code.

You can try that first.

Is this for all 97's? I'm about to swap to the C6 Z51 sways and C6 Z06 shocks. Will I have these probs too?

Only if you have the F45 suspension. Look at your console, it you have the **** with settings for "tour, sport, performance" you have the F45. You can also buy the snap in shock simulators if you don't want the hassle of soldering in resistors. Sims are quick and easy, all depends on what your time is worth; they are a little pricey for what you get

97-2003 are all the same. If you have the F-45 Real Time Dampening suspension, you will need to either:

Disconnect the Real time Dampening Computer and Have the F-45 RPO code removed from the BCM.

OR

Run SIMs or Resistors in the connectors for the shocks.

If you get rid of the F-45 CRAP, you will be SHOCKED at how much better your car handles!!!!!!!!

I have an 02 ZO6 with C5 ZO6 shocks. Switching to C6 ZO6 shocks made the car handle significantly better in emergent maneuvering. Taking ruff sweeping on ramps with C5 ZO6 shocks and the car wanted to side step off the road. With the C6 ZO6 shocks, the car feels and handles much better and NO MORE SIDE STEPPING!

Your base suspension will have much more seat of the pants handling gains than my ZO6. Im positive that you will enjoy the switch. It will be a different car!!!

Best part about using C6 ZO6 shocks,,,,there $260 NEW for all four. Contact Gene Culley www.gmpartshouse.com

I must have the base suspension then. All my console has is the Active Handling on/off button. I'm already sitting on my parts from Gene. C6Z06 Shocks and C6Z51 Sways W/metal endlinks. The sways he sent me look like they came out of a container with a 1000+ others banging into each other. All scuffed up. I'm gonna have them re-powdered before I install them. Also waiting on new Racemesh screens. Ordered them a while back and got the wrong ones so I'm waiting on my replacements. I'm also starting a huge stereo install so I'm just waiting for everything to get here so I can tear the car down and do it all at once. I hope the C6Z06 shocks are good. Was really torn between these and the Bilsteins. Hope I made the right choice.

You will NOT be dissatisfied!!! Money well spent!!!!

You will immediately notice significant handling improvements!!! You will need a CROW BAR to pry the grin off your face!

FYI. a 97 will not have active handling, just a traction control disable. Just don't want you to drive it hard and expect help that isn't there.

Traction Control is what I meant to say.
