Default Removing Catbacks with

Morning everyone.

I would like to know if it is possible to remove the catbacks with the car jacked up. I would like to do this at home but it looks a bit tight do do it on the ground.

You can do it its a bit of a PITA but can be done.I did mine at home. Get the back end of the car up as high as possible you will need the height to manouver the exhaust out as it will hit the floor if you do not have enough height. Also very important REMOVE the rear sway bar when attempting to do the exhaust removal as you need a bit of extra clearance when getting the stock exhaust off as it will foul on the sway bar.

Have fun.

I think 34" is the clearance required. I did it and that's high, but doable.

Cheers mate,

how high did you jack the car up?
I have some standard axle stands, they are about 17" high.

Would that do the trick?

o, that answers my question

I'll have to go to the garage or buy higher axle stands

Are you talking about the midpipe where the H, X is or the muffler section. The midpipe comes off without having to lift it that high. If you want to save the old muffler you have to get it pretty high. I didn't care about mines and hacked it off with a sawzall.

There are a few ways you can get the car that high. Use the highest jack stands you have and them pack them up higher using blocks of wood. What i did with mine was put some stands under the front then jack up the rear as high as i could put the stands under it then use a block on top of the jack and get the extra height then pack up the stands.
Its is so much easier and quicker if you do it on a hoist.

I'm talking about the rear mufflers, the rest of the exhaust will stay on.

Ok, i'll give it a go coming weekend.

If you will be throwing the original OEM mufflers away, then you can just cut the pipes off near the axle using a reciprocating saw. Any new aftermarket system will have separate pipes which will be very easy to install.

Cut those things off. They're worthless and easier to take off. You will need to get the car way up to take them off properly. It's actually scary to be under there with it that high.

You have a Z06 so the stock exhaust is worth $300 to $400. You being in France and the very low # of Z06's it could be worth more. so I would not cut the stock exhaust. The exhaust is titanium and can't be welded by most places. The money you can make off the stock exhaust you can pay someone to put on the aftermarket if you don't feel safe doing it yourself. I've done it and the car has to be a good 3 feet in the air. Good Luck and be safe!!
