Hey guys...need your help to see if any of you have had this problem.
I have an '02. I am receiving charge system fault. I speratically get a high voltage. It will hold a 13 to 14 volt and will shoot up to 16 volts. I had the battery checked and it is fine. Could this be the regulator?
I am also getting a traction control fault and sometimes an ABS fault. Could the voltage be the cause of a traction control problem?
Well the regulator is certainly suspect. Its inside of the alternator. You might wish to check for all the proper connections are clean and tight first.
All of the wiring at the alternator, starter solenoid and battery needs to be inspected cleaned and properly connected. Heres the schematic that you need to troubleshoot this issue:
FIGURE Generator(c)
There are usually a lot of corrosion /loose wire issues at the starter solenoid:
Battery terminals need to be tightened to 11 ft/lbs 97-03 C5.
yesterday i got my 04 vette out for a trip of about 20 miles. As I was backing out of the garage I got the High Voltage message and then the ABS service message and finally Traction Control needs Servicing message. I took my wife to the mall and kept the engine idling to keep the car warm. It was 38 degrees. It had been a couple of weeks since I last used the car. These messages went away. Today I took a 60 mile trip and not a single message.
I attribute yesterday's messages to the cold weather. I am not an engineer. I suspect that the battery voltage had dropped. After use of a couple of hours no more messages. I think that is some evidence of the low battery voltage causing several messages for various electical circuits. Just my thoughts.
