Well I had a Missfire.... after Santa dropped off his stuff (new plugs and wires) Miss fire continued. Off with the valve cover and the photo tells it all.

Not a very nice gift from Santa, unless he left you some new ones to replace them all. Merry Christmas!!

The good news is that it didn't drop a valve, the spring did its job.

Yes... very good thing ... I was at low RPM, mid march I will be back at VIR with 10 / 10 ..... not sure if outcome would have been different at 6500 .....

Tapered towards the bottom? Sound like you have them upside down.

Tapered springs have a lot of advantages if selected properly for the given application.

That may not be the source of your missfire. I had a similiar problem last spring. Mine went so far as to have the outer ring of the keeper break off, and another spring crack (installation problem-long story).
The car did not miss or run bad in any way. It did sound like I had a very bad lifter or broken rocker.

Mine ran like crap you could tell it was missing .. then the check engine light came on ... code said misfire.... knew I had a couple questionable wires so replaced them and still had the misfire... I then pulled the plugs and one looked wet or a darker wet brown like it was not getting the fuel burned off. pulled the valve cover and saw this .. I sure hope this is it

I know with the old V8's if you rev them up to high RPM's when they are cold you will snap the spring.
