If there was a link connected to your oil drain plug the chain must have broken. You can't loose a link of the chain and the chain still be intact. I bet the rollers are from your rocker arms and not the timing chain.
The chain being a double roller is what allowed it to loose links and still be intact. I bought a c5r chain for replacement but was considering not using it and going back with a double roller but after seeing this I am not sure. Do you know who was the manufacture of the timing set.

This was a rollmaster from AU.
The only person I trust is my engine builder and he gave me a set with a DID chain that is adjustable for my replacement. DID has made chains for many many years, so I'll place my bets on them.
Look at the rollers, it looks like there is something wrong with the metal they used, but I'm not an expert on metals. Hardness or something? The gears were fine, it was just the chain.
Wonder if anyone make a gear drive to replace the chains?
Haha....I hope not. My buddy had a Pete Jackson gear drive on a SBC when I was in high school...we installed it in autoshop...never again. That thing was soo loud....you could hear him coming a block away.......

WOW, certainly not a good advertisement for Rollmaster
Judging from the brinilling of the rollers I'd guess a heat treat issue.
oh, no knocking intended. builder has never seen a rollmaster fail until now. *note* my driver WILL ALWAYS find the weakest link in any car. I think this chain has been abused for five years.
billy, what chain was in your car? What rpm do you twist it to?

The chain that broke came from katech and was put in the car in 2004prior to me purchasing . I have a receipt when it was purchased with a date and item number . Jason @ katech could not say whether it was a c5r chain as it was an old item number but it probably was. This was my fourth day on the track since I bought the car a few months ago. I had just lifted tapped my brakes and back on the gas going through the kink at cmp when she broke.

Yes, there is an Australian company that does. It is supposedly very quiet but there hasn't been much user feedback on it. Not sure its an improvement as the harmonics are all directly coupled with this approach.
