So I have a problem that I hope someone has already run into and figured out how to fix it. I just finished replacing my oil sensor under the intake, which I must say was a much bigger job than I expected. I thought I had everything put back together properly, but when I go to start the engine, it starts, but then starts to sputter and then dies within 30 seconds.
Did I reassemble something in the wrong place? Has anyone seen this before?
I did accidentally break a piece of vacuum tube that was behind the intake on the passenger side. It was originally an "L" piece, but there was enough room to just replace it with a normal piece of vacuum tubing that is slightly bent, I didn't think this would cause this problem, but I guess you never know.
The intake is going to have to come back off. It's not going to get fixed by looking at it or posting.
Just to let you know.... once I forgot to plug in that little hose in the back (the 90 degree elbow) and the engine would run a little faster until the computer pulled it down.... but there was still a little whistle sound...
I think you've either got a major vaccum leak from a pinched/displaced intake port gasket, or the map sensor wires are broken/not plugged in (although that should throw a code).... so my money is on massive vaccum leak.
I just wish to clarify that you are talking about having replaced the oil pressure sender at the rear of the intake and not the sensors under the intake? Those two under it are the knock sensors.
I ended up pulling out the intake again and I think the culprit was the vacuum hose that connects to the straw behind the intake. Everything else was connected properly, and when I reseated the intake and ensured that the straw was connected, voila, everything works perfectly now.
Oh and that case of beer did come in handy, it's amazing how much better it tastes when the job is done.
Thanks but I couldn't have done it without this forum. The DIY section is amazing especially the step by steps with pictures. And then if something does go wrong everyone is very helpful. Being able to be part of a community like that makes me extremely happy I choose to get a corvette over other sports cars.
