I just put mine on about a month ago. They withstood the first washing just fine. You really don't notice them on the car unless you know what you are looking for. I haven't noticed any significant color changes from road debris.
Overall I am happy. I would not have the patience of taking them off and back on at every wash. So I am leaving them. We will see how long they last. I would guess a while.
I bought a full set but haven't put them on yet. They are also working on nose protection, rocker panel and mirror protection. I like the fact that you can remove it. I contacted the company that sells the semi-permanent stuff that is clear and asked them what residue remains upon removal and how is it removed. They never answered my question so I forgot about them. Conversely, Ed has answered all my questions and been extremely helpful. You might want to call him and ask him you questions.
I have been using these for almost a year. I use these on road trips going to and from shows. I bought them because they can be reused. I have become pretty efficient at being able to put the pieces on after a show for the drive home. I have bought two sets so that I have a "going to" and a "return from" set. Last summer I went to a show in Shreveport. On the way I came up on some road work with tar and gravel on the road. The pieces protected the front and rear areas behind the wheels. That alone was worth the price of the product.
Hope this helps.
Jim
I tried Cleartastics for the first time this winter. My original intention was to protect the paint from sand particles on the road. although we have had a really mild winter, my township did spread some sand on the roads. The Cleartastics worked great at preventing nicks to the paint.
Since I have had them on, I have washed the car numerous times without any problems. They are still in place.
Since they are virtually invisible, I'm thinking about leaving them on year-round.
I too have a set, but have yet to install them. It sounds like I will be pleased when I do so. I plan on leaving them on all year long. I wonder how well they handle track speeds.
dba4Life, Vettenuts,Cart3113, NBMSHARK, Big Thanks guys!!
Yes you can leave them on when you wash the car. We are going to change our instructions to advise that. Just be gentle, and make sure there dry before you drive off.
What's nice is that you do have the ability to remove them when you want. This prevents any wax/polish or dirt to build up on the edges. (which creates pronounced lines) This way the pieces stay practically invisible longer.
I heard of some people Z6 ing over them, but that I have not yet tried myself.
As far as changing color from being hit with dirt or exposed to weather, we have added UV inhibitors (not a layer or a top coat but actually mixed into the film) to help prevent yellowing. If they get dirty, like anything else just clean them.
YSK02C5- It's hard to get pic's of it on the car because it really does practically become invisible once applied. Check out the pic's on my site.
pridnjoy- you will like em :) If you have any questions just call me.
BigDave- No I have never heard that. Unless he's talking about a kit from
2 1/2 years ago. We re tooled the C5 kit and I have heard nothing but good responces regarding the ease of application and fit.
Vettenuts- The C5 mirrors are in the final testing stage. :yesnod:
Guys, we are here for ya. Feel free to call, email or fax me.
You addressed my major concern - discoloration / "pronounced edges."
I am sure that I will get some after all the positive feedback, but am just wondering how long they can actually cling tightly and seamlessly to the fiberglass after repeated removals / washings?
I've been considering different approaches for when I get the new car. Right now the '00 shows the most wear and tear behind the rear wheels and along the rocker moldings. Do you pieces match perfectly with the edges of the body panels? That is, if I get strips for behind the front wheel, all along the rocker panel, and along the lower part of the doors up to the lower curve, and behind the rear wheels.....will the rocker one sit flush with the top edge and how will the other two pieces look?
This is going to be on a black car that I show often. The only other alternative that I can consider would be tasteful (not that they can ever truly be so) mud flaps on the C5.
The only part that has truly worn is the turned-in part of the rear 1/4 panel at the bottom where it really seems to catch a lot of road debris. The rest of it, along the low sides of the car is generally just tar strikes that can be easily cleaned off.

Brett,
Our kits do provide an insert piece that protects that painted area that wraps into the wheel well.(Front & back)
As for the Rockers, we curently have a kit that is beautifully cut and is extremly easy to put on.( #18) They do a great job protecting right in front of the rear wheel. (where it flares out) The picture on our site happens to be on a black car. :)
We are also in the final testing for extensions for those pieces for people who want to protect more of the rocker.
Lower part of doors is on the list to create a kit for. :yesnod:
Call me if you want to go over the kit, coverage..etc some more.
Sounds very good, Ed. I don't imagine I will be in the new car for a few months since I have to wait for arbitration with GM at this point. But it should be in definitely by the end of the summer. I'll give a call when I'm ready to order.
Friday, I promise Ed.....I'll be taking off the polish and installing the pieces....since I'll be traveling to a show on Saturday, we'll get some real world feedback

No sweat Mark!
P.S When you say remove the "polish" are you referring to Zaino. Becuase you don't have to strip Zaino or wax before applying.
