My 2003 is 100% stock with 34,000 miles.
The check engine light came on so I stopped by the local auto parts store. They plugged in their handy little machine under the dash and trouble shooting code: P1416 appeared.
Probable cause:
1. Air Pump electrical circuit fault.
2. Blocked Airsystem.
3. Failed Air pump.
Any information, comments, suggestions are greatly appreciated!
Thank you
Code P1416 is: AIR System Bank 2. You can pull the codes yourself from the dic. You can find the code list at http://www.stengel.net/diccodes.htm I printed them and keep them in a 3-ring binder along with other vette info.
It's most likely caused by a bad $12 AIR check valve located between the back of the engine and firewall on the driver's side. Don't ask me how I know.
I have been getting the same code on my 99'. There were some major posts a while back about this and from what I recall, you have to remove the intake to get to that air check valve. Quite a few people recomended disconnecting the hose going from the air check valve you can get to easily (drivers side, above or next to the exhaust manifold) and spaying throttle body cleaner in the hose towards the rear of engine then blowing compressed air in the hose in hopes of freeing up the stuck valve. I am waiting to find access to an air hose. You may want to wait for confirmation on this as I am relying on memory and well, you may just want to wait for other replies.
Not sure what your plan for repair is but if you don't do your own work and are thinking of the dealer, consider seeing a tuner and having them just tune out the AIR system. The part is cheap but the labor to get to it if you are paying someone may just cover a permanent repair of tuning it out and it will have no effect on performance. The AIR system only runs on cold start.

Trying to clean the valve might work (for a while) ... but the cause of failure is the rubber diaphragm that is the 'check valve' becomes hard and stiff from being baked in the location it is in. With time, the rubber diaphragm gets too hard and stiff to flex enough to allow enough air through to the passenger side head and O2 sensor to pass the system test. Once this happens, the Check Engine Light will eventually come on.
I had the exact problem with my 98 and fixed it with Bill Curlee's suggested repair of carb cleaner and wd40. It has not reocurred in the the last 1000 miles. Search on the code and I think you can see pictures of where to do the surgery.
