Got a question for you c5 guys I drove my car the other day for about a 45 minute drive and I am hearing a tapping noise sounds like a couple of lifters clanking doesnt do it when the car is cold at start up like I have read some people complain about. Seems like its there just not very noticable when the engine is cold but after its warmed up and been driving it seems to get alot louder.
Do I have a lifter that collapsed or a cam that has a flat lobe or are the rocker arms adjustable and thats what it is . Or is it time just to pull the cam and do the upgrade and hope thats what the problem is . I have warranty left on it for about another 10000 miles or just drive her hard and trash the motor and then let them deal with it
Put the shoe on the other foot guy... If you had a warranty on a car and it started making ****ed up noises would you not want it fixed under warranty? Whats so dishonest about driving the **** out of a car that was designed and built to be driven hard and perform? If it takes a **** and its under warranty, take it in, they are the ones that shot themselves in the foot by putting a warranty on a used sports car.
I say take it in now; checked out and fixed.
Sounds like a lifter noise but without actually seeing the car it would be impossible to say for sure. Since you have a warranty just take the car in under warrenty.

I don't use the warranty on my vehicles as justification for driving them hard, and I fix them when I break them. I believe this is what most adults would do.

I didnt say drive them hard to justify using your warranty, I said drive the car like its built to be driven , if it fails...have it fixed if its under warranty. "Most Adults"...some Adults that drive vettes are 24...like me, and like to experience the thrill of the performance these cars can deliver, rather than putt around lettin the wind blow thru your silver hair.

I vote that you just beat the **** out of it, until the motor blows. Perfect plan
It could be several things including lifters. Since you have a warranty why not have them look at it and determine what is wrong. You can make decisions from there but at least you won't be guessing at the problem.
Thanks guys I will just take it in and have them look at it and tell me whats going on. Dishonest was when they sold me a low miles corvette and then 2 weeks later trans started leaking fluid then 6 months later trans went out and it was trashed. Not due to my driving but previous owners. Now I am having motor issues and I have only had the car 14months so who was on the dishinest side of things. I have done so much to the car and its a very beautiful car that I would hate to get rid of it now.
So looks like upgrades are coming soon for my other woman, let the warranty company pay for what they will and i will just pay my mechanic the diffrence and get some more HP's out of it

Sounds like the previous owner "drove the crap out of it, 'cause it was under warranty", and now you are stuck dealing with it.....
Had a similar problem with my c5. Turned out to be two roller lifters lost their bearings and ate up the lobes on the cam. The difference may be mine had 200k on it when the lifter failed. Good luck
If you had a flat spot on the cam you would definitly know as the car would stumble and possibly backfire. that would cause one or more valves to not open.
It could be a lifter or it could also be a pushrod is slightly bent. The best way to check if a pushrod is bent is to remove them, and roll them on glass. If there is any movement other than straight there is a slight bend and it should be replaced. Pushrods are cheap at about $120 a set. There would be no adjusting valves as they are self adjustable once they are torqued down to I beleive 22 FT LBS.
