My C-5, automatic trans. coupe, is having the problem that bulldog2600posted about a six speed. My car will not start, but everything comes on normally, except the starter. No sound, no starter. If I wait a few minutes, it will start. I know it could be the solenoid, but could it be the trans. switch or whatever interfaces with the trans./starter/key/computer? Will diagnostics show anything? The car had the exact symptoms described. I live in a AZ. We do not have moisture with which to contend, so it probably is not a ground connection. Do the trans. or ignition switches cause trouble? The car has 24k on it.
Thanks
JAS
It most likely the solenoid. Autozone has one off a 1999 Taho that will fit. You just need to get a connector pigtail and splice it on the small start wire. The replacement solenoid is around $50. Far less than a new or reman starter.
Heres the schematic that you can use to test voltage at the Theft Deterrant Relay.
Thanks for the information. I will print out the schematics. As I have thought more about the problem, I wonder if the security system might have caused the problem. The car starts right now. The dealer said drive it until it will not drive and call a tow truck.
