Enlightening post.
Yes I agree (enlighting) in aleast one respect imo, I have read guys say a number of times no rwhp gain with a catback system on a C5. But if you read the link I posted with dyno chart numbers with the Magnaflows before & after and look at PeterPans numbers w/catback only they point to a possible 8-12 rwhp gain with a catback system imo. Also from my previous research Devilman02 from this forum with a manual 2002 C5 made 310rwhp/315rwtq sae corrected with a catback & X only on a MUSTANG dyno. Would be interesting to see what he would of made on a dynojet dyno.

VetteWeb...has a number of articles and they always do before and after dynos usually the same day, on the same dyno and they indicate the magnaflow x-pipe and catbacks do offer gains....

Some people get defensive when they spend $$$ on upgrades and don't get much more results than what a simple catback and x would give them. They denounce it and say that the gain is nothing....or that it's a "happy" dyno.

People also need to realize that these are mass produced engines and there will be a certain amount of inherent variation in results. + or - 5% wouldn't be unheard of would it?

Correct.

Also...

'01 Zo6s average 335 rwhp
'02+ Zo6s average 350-360 rwhp.

p.s. I've spent years on ls1tech which is geared mainly towards f-bodies with ls1 engines and it's common for the 98-00 Camaro/Trans Am to dyno 285-305 rwhp & '01-'02 to dyno 300-315 due to the live rear axle absorbing less hp compared to the Corvette's IRS set-up. The f-bodies had lower crank hp ratings from the factory... but everyone knew they were the identical engine (and I mean EXACT) that the Corvette had.... --The f-body had lower factory ratings yet they dyno'd higher!

The Corvette was still a little quicker (even with less rwhp) due to lighter weight and better aerodynamics especially in the xxx speeds. It was
always a "thing" in the early days to modify an f-body on a budget and hand a Corvette (or mustang) his azz... with Grey Poupon.

i started this thread because the guys at Borla didnt give me a stock baseline to compare with.

my car is a 2000 a4 bone stock, they built a custom set of LT headers X-pipe and a cat-back, and my car put out 333 rwhp on the dyno.....thats what the graph says.

so what do you guys think....i will post pic's later.......please dont shoot the messenger if you dont agree with any of the info that was posted.

Congrats nice pick up in rwhp imo and sounds believable to me with an auto running a catback, X pipe and LT's. For comparison from my previous research here is a dyno of 1999 C5 with just LG steet headers putting down 335rwhp/ 351rwtq so yours looks good. The only thing it doesn't say if it this is an auto or manual but I am thinking it is a manual but not 100% sure.

Thanks for this info. You know I like the live axle better of course when going to the 1/4 track only, wish my C5 had it when at the track for better launches (stronger & no/less wheel hop) but didn't occur to me also about more rwhp on a LA would also be there till (less loss) you posted this info on the which makes sense. Also never researched Z06's rwhp avgs since I have a LS1 but had an rough ideal but now have solid info thanks to your post.

No I am talking about if the 1999 C5 that put down 335rwhp with LG headers is an auto or a manual not yours.

Mine is a 99 manual C5 and with Vararam, Catback, X-pipe, and predator canned tune, it put down 321rwhp. Still was running fat so it had more in it.

Now it is Supercharged and putting down 500rwhp.

1999 M6, only mod that could affect RWHP at the time was the repro 18x10.5 Zo6 wheels in the back, so if anything, numbers could have been higher. This was with 58K on the clock and what I presumed to be the original plugs and air filter on the car when I took them off a couple weeks later.

In my book any car that puts down 300 rwhp is very respectable, especially stock.

Figure ~ 12% powertrain loss for a manual trans and ~15% powertrain loss for an automatic and you'll have a rough conversion for crank hp to rear wheel hp calculations...

~321hp/338tq with Magnaflow & Honker. Heads/cam are going on now. The hp has to come up. 2011 Mustangs are going to be eating C5s.
