I have a 6 speed that used to give me a little trouble going into reverse every once in a while (mostly when it was cold), I put royal purple in it and it has no issue now.
Does that mean that the trans is on borrowed time?
Also I have 2.73 and it is hard to get into 6th unless I am going fast enough (80+) to where 6th gear will be doing 1300 + RPM's?
Now reverse works fine and all other shifts are great, no issues.
Any thoughts / experiances would be great.

Many people have reported having good luck switching to Royal Purple Synchromax in their 6 speeds, myself included. My trans was nowhere as bad as yours sound, but switching to RP did make a positive affect in shift smoothness. If it's shifting smoothly now and you have no bad noises coming from the trans, I wouldn't worry about it. It might have desperately needed an oil change in the tranny. I'd pay attention to it for awhile and if nothing negative pops up, I'd say you're good to go.

You just needed a trans fluid change. Also, if you have a 6 speed, you should have 3.42 unless the diff was changed.
My 97 had gear clash going into reverse from the time it was new and my 03Z had it from the time I bought it with 18K miles on it. I went 6 years on each car with plenty of track miles on each and the trannys held up fine. They both had the clash when sold and as far as I know the subsequent owners had no problems with the trannys either. I just got into the habit of letting the clutch out a little bit as I pushed the shifter into reverse and hit some resistance. That turned the gears just enough to allow the tranny to shift easily into reverse.
One thing I forgot to mention was that Corvette T56 reverse has single bronze reverse blocking ring (compare to 1-2 have triple synchro ring; 3-6 have double synchro ring). All the transmissions I took apart, every single one of them had the engagement teeth on the reverse gear somewhat chewed up. It helps if you shift it into another gears (like 5th) and then to reverse. This slows down the counter extension shaft where the reverse driven gear is so less grind going into reverse.
