I want to get a catch can for my Procharged Z.
Who makes the best one, Rev-Extreem, CCA, Elite, etc?
Why is it better?
Is one easier to use/empty than the other?
The only problem you'll have with the Elite unit is the machined bracket. It bolts to the passenger cylinder head with supplied stainless hardware. The Procharger is in the way.
Call Elite and see if they have an alternate bracket. I'm sure they can make one for you if nothing is on the shelf...
Good point, I really want something easy and off the shelf in a complete kit, and a good value. I know the CCA is a complete kit and less $, not sure about the mounting w the SC.
^ It's really custom. The website said you have to discuss your vehicle before he makes it. It also seems like he doesn't like polished metal very much.
Lest we forget , installation counts for a fair % of the ( any) catch cans affectiveness. Mount as far away from the heat source(s) as condensation plays its role( important to reduce gasses and container temperature) . Mount can below the PCV outlet and inlet points to utilize gravity.
When choosing an oil catch can consider the ID hose size ( larger is better), the condensation /baffle/ separator material and flow design. All are not equal. Some cans have no filter or baffles at all.
Interesting to note the progression of the OEM LSx PCV system(s) designs with the LS1 valve cover baffle to the under valley cover LS6 baffle to the LS2 dual ( inlet and outlet oil baffle /separators. An aftermarket oil catch can will enhance even the least effective of these (LS1).
The are some OEM 'oil catch cans' ( generic terminology)that return filter/ separate fouled crankcase vapor and return captured bulk oil to the lube oil crankcase or resevoir. This can be argued pro and con.
An affective design deals with water moisture as well as oil fouled crankcase vapors and does not reduce air flow thru the cankcase closed loop PCV system. Inovations such as utilizing a coalescing filter in place of the ordinary particulate mass filter . Or join forces and incorperate both particulate and coalescing filters in one CCA/Mike Norris catch can. Also use 1/2 OD spiral bristles brass pipe cleaner ( cut to 4" lenght ) that is installed in the 1/2 ID return hose.

I would be a bit leary about welded-shut housings like that, unless the units are considered to be throw-away if a buildup of contamination renders it useless.

I agree and like your set up, and good info. on the PDF. I would like to be able to see how much oil is collected.
