there is also a digitalguy who fixed mine for around 50.00 plus he shipped it back within 48 hours and he gives you a 5 year warranty! I did the self fix the first time but then needed lights because they went out so I just sent it to him!
I believe that's the link I used before diving into mine. I used it as an excuse to buy a new Weller soldering iron with adjustable temperature setting and found the solder on the inner board (shown in the link) to be cracked in a few places. All it took was some resoldering (make sure the solder tip has solder on it or the board solder may wick up) and my display is now at full brightness.
You can use my shifter removal procedure to get to the HVAC box. Then it's just a matter of removing some screws and the box containing the inner PC board can be removed.
