Yes I am complaining that the check engine light is not working. It doesn't come on when you turn the key on. It was working a few weeks ago when I discovered a code 0410. I got that fixed today and then noticed the check engine light wasn't coming on at start up.
In N.Y. you can't pass inspection unless that is on at start up.
Any ideas...bad bulb.....
Also no codes on my scanner. Everything is fine with the car.
Well I just went and started the car and the light worked. I shut the car down and then tried it again and the light didn't come on. Now instead of a minor problem it os a pain in the azz. I hate intermittent problems like this. My luck I take it for inspection and it won't light.
Still no codes.
Just went out and started it again and the light went on. It seems to work after you shut the car down and let it sit for a couple of minutes. But once you start it and let it run, then shut it. It won't come on again until you let the car sit.

I think you need to step away from the car.......you are creating your own problems..........
Sounds like the bulb is making poor contact with the board. Disassemble it and inspect the bulb/mount. Just take it to the inspection station. If it fails, you getr ONE FREE reinspection and a 15to 30 day grace period to get it right.

Maybe you are right. Maybe it has been doing this all along and I just haven't noticed it. I usually don't sit in the car and turn it off and right on again.
I just went and started it and it worked fine. But when that state inspector gets in there it won't work, just my luck. I hate this time of the year, all my cars need inspection and there is something that always pops up and it is tax time and I always owe.

I don't think this is a problem...especially if you are turning off, and immediately restarting. For comparison, I just did this same exercise on my 2000 silverado: Key to on, MIL on, start vehicle, MIL goes out. Shut down, and immediately restarted...MIL did not come back on. I had to wait ~8 seconds from shutdown, to restart for the PCM to test the MIL again. I suspect there is a time observed before the PCM will run the diagnostic again. The last thing you want to do, is tear apart your dash......if this is completely normal.
My vette is hibernating for the winter........any of you warm weather guys that can try this little experiement?

I keep trying it and it seems to be 8-10 seconds. It might be normal and I have never noticed it. Thanks for your help.
