Did alot of reading on this site and am going with LG street headers and Borla exhaust. Is this worth undertaking with a friend to install or just have my mechanic do it? Some thoughts please.

It all depends on:
1) Your abilities
2) Proper tools
3) Adequate space to work
4) Willingness
5) Budget
I believe that if you will go to LS1.com that you will find a how to section on there that has a step by step instruction with photo's for installing Long tubes on a C5......the cat back install will requiere that your rear end be about 32" above the floor....very scarey, Good Luck!
Then you are golden.....guys install headers on jackstands all the time.
I did just last month, on 16" jackstands. A little cramped but it worked. I'd also recommend replacing the stock tunnel plate if you haven't already, since to do so later means taking out your exhaust midsection. Better to do this while it's off anyway!
If you want another good set of install instructions, look at cajundude's website here:

I did a clutch on jack stands. I did a Ti catback on jack stands. I did headers 3 weeks ago on a Kwiklift. Got tired of jacking is all.
My new advice, that I've never given, is consider buying new O2 sensors. It's something I am regretting at the moment. I started throwing a slow response bank 1 sensor 1 code and it's going to be a royal P.I.T.A. changing it out.
I went from stock to GHL exhaust and LG streets. I installed it all on ramps and jack stands by myself, but it would've been easier with a helper. You won't have a problem if you are reasonably comfortable working on cars and take your time.
