Default app sensor

I am starting to have this problem on a 98 vette, with 114k miles. the service engine soon light popped up again alluding to this problem. It last happened a couple of months ago and went away on its own. What does replacing this part entail as far as money? I don't even know where to get the part. How much is the part, I cannot find it in the places I have been looking, is it a dealer only part? help would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, it is a dealer/GM type part. Call or e-mail Gene w/GMpartsdirect or Bob, in parts, at Fichtner Chev (1-800-234-5284) for pricing info.

This item tends to be very robust and reliable. Many C5s here with well over 100 to 150K miles and still working fine. If I were you and wanted to maximize savings, I would not be afraid of buying one from a salvaged C5. Very rare for this item to fail.

Having said all that I would suggest, in the absence of any information to the contrary,......what makes you think the APP sensor itself is faulty? A code? Have you or someone else diagnosed the problem and come to this conclusion? Could it be the wiring connector plug? Have you tried disconnecting and then reconnecting it several times (contact cleaning)? Have you ever had water in the car near the gas pedal? How about damaged/pinched wiring (you said "fixed itself")? A wiring or mechanical problem won't "fix itself". The symptoms may come and go from time to time, but that's not "fixing" anything.

HTH

P.S. If you're convinced the sensor IS bad and want to confirm, do you have a buddy or know someone who may temporarily swap his out? Never know.

I agree with the above. Run the codes using the DIC and see what you have and post them here.

Default thanks!

I have run the codes in the past when the problem last surfaced, that is how I know that it is the APP sensor I know it did not fix itself, it's an intermittent code. Funny thing is that today, the check engine light came off again so no more problems.....I will try and see if I can clean it or something, maybe it is that.

Seen a couple forum members lately with APP issues. Told them to disconnect, inspect and reconnect. Both said that cleared theie=r issues. One said the connector was loose .

Which would indicate that the sensor itself was not the core of the problem. That also highlights what can happen when someone assumes a part is faulty and then replaces the part. In the act of unplugging and re-plugging the connector (solving an actual problem) sometimes a part gets "blamed" as the original problem and a person then swears it was the part all along.

Checking the connections and/or wiring bundles at the TAC module would be another thing to do too. It's located under the battery and it's wiring could suffer the same battery acid damage as the HVAC system.
