Default Cats or No Cats?

Im in a NON emissions state. 98 c5 with full catted Dynatech SupermaXX system into Borla Stingers. Next week starts my A&A install and I was thinking of getting rid of the cats because of the post install tune.

I love a mean a$$ exhaust. does anyone have anything like this? if so, does everyone in a couple mile radius know when your at WOT? dont really care about highway driving or anything else, not my DD> just want to know if the sound is going to change a lot.

Any input would be great

Thanks,

Dave

I put on the long tubes, x pipe & hi flo cats years ago. I only had the hi flo's on there for just a few months before taking them off and going w/ the by pass pipes. Didn't really make that much difference in sound. I mainly did it for the extra ponies. Don't really know if I recieved them though. Dyno's @ 390 rwhp.Stock motor,Vararam, 342 gears, LG long tube pro's, Ti cat back. 1/4 mi.=high 11's. 2003 Z06

From what I've read, it doesn't make too much difference in sound level without cats.

Some people have found the raw exhaust smell, without cats, to be objectionable at times.

Thanks A lot Man, thats the confirmation I needed. The cats are tiny any way. Dynatech wants 5hundred something for their "off road X" NUTS!!!!!!!!!!

You will feel the power in high rpms with no cats.

Even with a lean tune cars without cats stink pretty bad. (Mine did) Going someplace nice and smelling like a lawn mower got old really quick.

Having people behind you wishing they could run your stinky garbage truck off the road isn't what I want... so this time around I run cats.

I can't comment on the exact effect of no cats on a C5, mine has the stock pup cats and reg. cats removed for one set of hi-flow cats and I did notice a noise difference just which that change. However my 3rd gen. camaro with a 400 hp motor has headers no cat and a 40 series flowmaster. The total volume did not change much at WOT when I removed the cat but the "bark" of the exhaust was night and day. I love it...

Like many have stated it will stink. My wife always knows when I've driven the camaro, mostly because of the smell but my smile might give things away also. I put about 1500 - 1800 miles a year on the camaro and I love every minute of the exhaust sound it makes.

To sum up. No cats equal fun obnoxious noise but smell goofy and aren't that great for the environment. As others have said if your removing them for power you'll be disappointed.

Yes I agree too. I had both on my 04 Z06. The sound with not cats is the best. But I really got tired of smelling every where I went. And I could not really take a date out in it. So I put High flow cats on it. It did tone the sound down a little. But now I can at lest take a date in it with out stinking. Well at lest if I don't get on her to hard. You still have that bad cat smell if you drive it hard. But that goes away. To sum it up. Cats is the way to go.

I went with high-flow cats this time around and am very happy with the results. My previous 650ish rwhp Z28 had an off-road pipe and it got annoying after a while...

I have long tubes, no cats & Corsa pacecars. It is quiet at idle but straight pipes at WOT.
When I do parades, the people behind me hate it. That is why I always make sure a mustang club or ricer club is behind me in a parade.

As others have said...No cats make the car a tad bit louder, but stinks. I am running cats for that reason.

Why do you guys with no cats say it makes you smell? Do you stand around the back of the car when it's running?

I don't run cats, my dogs do though
