Doing a H/C on my 98 and installed a set of Patroit stage 3 heads and HS full roller rockers.
Cam is just under .600 lift now the rockers hit the baffles on the center bolt V/C.
I removed the one on the drivers side completly but had to build a small baffle in the rear for the PCV.
Got it on the dyno last night and the rear rocker started hitting the baffle.
Has anyone else had these issues, and what did you do to correct it?
Maybe not the solution you wanted to hear but I switched to the '04 LS6 style valley cover. I too will be tearing out baffles so that my Comp Ultra Golds will clear.
To get the wipe correct on my Yella Terra/AFR head setup I had to shim the rockers with 0.125" shims. As a result, I had major clearance issues under the valve cover. I went to the 04 valley cover (with the built in restrictor) and removed the baffles and actually had to grind down all the internal bosses that cover up the threaded holse for the coil pack installation. I now had to use a thread sealer on the coil pack bolts but they clear (barely). With the later valley cover the number of valve cover connections is reduced to the fresh air inlet on the forward end of the passenger side cover.
If there were an aftermarket replacement with more clearance that would still allow the use of the FRC's I would probably get those myself at this point to ensure I maintain enough clearance.
Well I guess I was lucky in the fact I didn't have to shim to get the correct wipe pattern otherwise things would have been worse.
I just had them remove the baffle and continue with building the tune.
I found some spacers that are 1/2" but I'm afraid they will be to tall and cause clearence problems with the alternator and p/s bracket.
I really don't want to go to the fixed orifice 04 system so I guess I'll just deal with the baffle when I get the car home.
