Presently l have a 2002 coupe with the Z51 package, my question is what is the next step in upgrading my brakes and is there a big difference and does it warrant the cost??
This is for driving around town and turnpikes.
Just my opinion, but unless you are upgrading tires and wheels it is hard to beat the stock Z51 brake system. If you plan on tracking your car than and even then not really needed for most part time drivers, go with Brembo brakes, which would also require new wheels and tires. Brembo brakes will be about $3000!!!
If you're never going to take it to a track or run autox, then get some Hawk Street Performance pads and call it a day. They dust more than the OEM's, so you'll be cleaning your car more often. Not a bad thing really.

Even for light track duty such as auto-cross the factory braking system with some aftermarket pads such as HAWK HP Plus is more than enough. I and others in my club use this combination without any issues
I wouldn't do anything. The stock brakes work just fine for what you are doing. Turnpike cruising requires little from the brake system, you could almost get by without brakes for doing that.
Have a chance to pick up a nearly new set of Z51 C6 brakes with drilled rotors to put on my '01 C5..Is this a 'bolt on deal' and what should I offer him??
thanks
Baer has a new mono-block 6 piston 14" rotor upgrade . It will fit a stock 18" wheel, you do need to measure first though as it is a close fit.
They include Baer 6S forged MonoBlock 6-piston calipers machined from 2618 forgings, resulting in the stiffest possible design, even at extreme operating temperatures. Next, Baer uses stainless steel, staggered bore pistons to virtually eliminate end-to-end pad taper and offer superior thermal shielding. This minimizes the effects of brake pedal fade due to brake fluid boiling
Included is a pair of 2-piece, cross-drilled, slotted brake rotors with zinc coated surfaces and a matched set of brake pads.
Our prices are some of the best you will find anywhere, we are going to have a sale in May with 5% off Baer systems to celebrate our anniversary.
I will post pictures comparing a 13" Baer GT + kit to the new extreme system. The caliper difference is very impressive. These new mono block calipers are massive.
