Default identify heads

How can you identify which heads are on a car (specifically if 243 heads) if the #s have been removed from the pads at the end of the heads?
As I had posted in the past, when my wife's LS1 car dyno'd unexpectedly high, we looked at the heads to see which heads it had, and all the #s had been ground off the pads (you could see the grinding marks)
Is there some #s under the valve cover to identify the heads?

The only thing I can think of is that you would have "D" shaped exhaust ports as opposed to round ones on the 853 and 241 heads.

hmmm; So the 243 heads have D shaped exhaust ports?
I can't believe i hadn't heard that before But then I guess I've never really seen any Z06 heads before.

There are casting numbers under the valve covers that can clearly be seen. Valve cover easier to remove than pulling off the exhaust manifold.

Thanks; That's what I was hoping for.
Is the same three digit #s as on the pads?

should be two sets of 4 digit numbers cast in the top of the head. My LS6 heads had 1256 4243
