Default Increase HP with MAF Housing

I was searching through eBay and came across a company called Indy-Motorwerks (yes, "werks" is spelled right). Anyway... they have MAF sensor housings for sale. Just the housing, you have to use your stock center piece. They claim the throat is 80mm, stock being 74.5. They also claim it flows at 1000CFM while stock flows at 644CFM and it adds 9HP and 7TQ. Plus, it's made from a nylon composite that stays cooler than the stock aluminum housing, which produces more dense, cooler and more accurate air flow. The cost is $42.95.

From what I know... this design sounds like it should improve the airflow. Has anyone heard of this? If so, does it work or is it just hype?

I wanted to buy a new MAF sensor but they are expensive. I have already emptied my wallet on a Vararam w/ power duct, 3.73 diff, $500 dyno tune, then a Melrose system with Corsa Touring exhaust, LS6 intake, Vmax ported throttle body, and now I need to take it back for another $500 tune. I need to save some money if I can.

Your STOCK MAF will easily support 500+ HP without being a restriction. True, a better flowing MAF will add HP BUT,,,,,,it will also adversely affect part throttle fuel efficiency. In plain and simple terms, your most likely going to see drivability issues and loose part throttle fuel efficiency because your MAF is not calibrated to the new air flow. and is giving the PCM false information of a lean condition..

If you installed that housing and had a professional tuner recalibrate the MAF and VE tables, those issues would not be an issue. Tuning to fix that would be $200-$500. So,,,pick your poison .

If you had a serious cam, ported heads, ported FAST 90, Long Tube Headers, Vararam, etc.... and were making gobs of power,,,that housing will start to shine.

Thank you fellow members. You have answered my question and I'll save my money. I didn't know the stock MAF sensor would handle 500 HP. That explains why my Tuner said to get the LS6 intake and a ported throttle body and didn't say anything about the MAF sensor.
Thanks again.

I picked up one of those maf housings cheap, and am going to throw it in when I get the car tuned after my long tube install. Figure it couldn't hurt, especially if the car will be dynotuned.
