Default Left Front Turn Signal Won't Work

The left front turn signal no longer works. The rear (taillights) works, however it runs at triple speed. I assumed the bulb burnt out. I just replaced the left front turn signal bulb (and did my regular spring oil change/etc). That didn't seem to fix it.

Anyone ever run into this before? Electrical problems are always painful. I checked two grounding plugs (left and right), and cleaned off all corrosion and reattached them. Still not working. The right turn signal works fine.

Any ideas?

Do the DRLs work?

good call. no, the left one does not, and as expected the right one does. So what does that mean?

Tells me that you are either not getting 12volts to the socket, or loss of a ground. Check for 12volts at pin A (light blue wire) with the car running i.e. DRL's on. Also check for the resistance to ground at pin G(black wire).

Finally a dry weekend. It looks like I have both power to the light blue wire and ground from the black. Is there a diagram somewhere of each of the other pins?

Something doesn't wash here. If you have 12volts at the light blue wire (pin A), and a good ground at the black wire(pin G), then the DRL should work. What is the resistance to ground at pin G?

The brown wire(pin B) is for the turn signal/park lamp.

If you are sure the ground is good, then you either have a bad bulb, or a bad socket.

An easy way to test this is to connect the meter with the negative wire to a good known ground. Then, check the circuit with the bulb in place. Look for 12V on the wire that should have 12V (the power wire) and 0V on the wire that should have 0V (the ground wire).

The connections can sometimes have a high resistance. You get what appears to be power or a ground with an open circuit but with the load (the bulb in this case) the voltage is dropped across the circuit fault and not the bulb.

I am an idiot. Thanks for the help. Turns out both the turn signal and the DLR bulbs were out, and that kept either one from working. 6 hours underneath that car all for another bad bulb.

didn't want to start a new thread. on my wife's C5, the left front turn signal keeps blowing about once every 2 weeks. most of the time, the bulb itself is broken when i go to replace it. yesterday, it was just really black inside. it doesn't appear to light any brighter than the rest of the bulbs. i haven't checked voltage yet, just wondering if anyone has heard of this happening before

Yep, we've all heard it, the heat from the bulb has melted a hole in the top of the housing, and water hitting the hot bulb causes a problem.

Totally agree with this. Both of my oem corners had holes melted in the top...water killed those bulbs quick. I replaced my corners with clear outs/leds. Much better look and no more melting plastic.

My front right turn signal sometimes works and sometimes doesnt. Usually if it doesnt work the next time I start the car it does. This has only happend 3 times and there was about a 8 month gap inbetween the first and 2nd time. Any idea what my problem might be (I suspect a ground but im not sure where it is)?
