Default Fix Squeaking Steering Wheel

This worked for me by laying on my back under the steering wheel. My head is near the firewall. You will see the steering column go into the green and white rings right at the firewall (see photo). I was able to slightly turn the steering wheel with my left hand while laying under there and the squeak/vibration was obvious. I used the same silicone spray I use for weatherstripping, the CRC brand I get at WalMart. While slightly turning the steering wheel back and forth with my left hand I sprayed about three short blasts behind the white ring, see photo. No more squeak at least for day one.

I would have bet money the squeak was coming from the airbag area of the steering wheel but it is not.

Good info. Thanks.
It's not the most comfortable position (blood rushing to your head) LOL, but I'm sure it didn't take but a minute or two.

I would have bet money my noise was the coming from clock spring between turn signal switch and airbag also, but your trick was fixed my noise! Shot some PB blaster up there ( all I had ) but if noise comes back will use some white lithium
Thanks for the tip

Default Squeak in steering wheel column

Fantastic. Thanks so much for taking the time to respond to my question. I appreciate it.

Thanks David!

This groan has been driving me nuts for years and steadily getting louder every summer. Today I got fed up with it, found your pic, grabbed a can of Blaster white lithium and and a trim removal tool and pried the firewall away from the steering position sensor you showed and jammed the straw up in there and gave it a good 10 second squirt of grease.

It immediately quieted down. Thanks for the tip and the pic!
