Default How light is to light? Flywheel question

Ok so I finally bought a clutch and now im looking at flywheels. Ive got it down to the F1 flywheel which is 15.45lbs and the Fidanza Aluminum Flywheel which is 12.5lbs. Is the Fidanza to light, or does it relly matter? Also the price is a pretty big difference. I can get the F1 for around $150. Any input would be great. Also the clutch is a Spec 3+. Thanks guys!!!!

The spec 3 clutch is great. either fly wheel will do.

that combo will be louder then stock. But that is normal

Good Luck

I chose durability. The aluminum can have the starter ring come loose sometimes. The center bolt ring can also crack/break on some aluminums under severe enough conditions. The difference was just a couple pounds. Check out the spec lite wheel. It's a slick steel unit if they still sell it. I haven't heard anything about it lately but it was pricey.

I have the same combo as you minus the + on the spec 3. I don't have any issues with the flywheel and really didn't notice a difference with it. Only issue I have is the damn eeeeeerrrrrk sound the clutch makes when going rolling from first gear it's loud and embarrising it's bugging the crap out of me now. Something to do with the material of the spec 3 it was posted awhile back.

Why do you wish to go to aluminum? If you don't track your car I would use the added funds for something else. The stock flywheel is about 25 lbs. Going to aluminum will allow for better acceleration but also degrades how easy the car launches from a dead stop.

Also, make sure any balance weights in the old flywheel are transfered to the new, or better yet, if the engine currently runs smooth, have the new flywheel and pressure plate balanced to match the old unit before they are installed.

I think you are right on this one.I was going to do it just because. The car runs great now. Minus not being able to go above 5krpm without the clutch saying F.U. I had planned on having everything balanced, but I might just have my flywheel resurfaced and everything balanced.

I had the Fidanza and it was too light for a Driver. It showed up as 7hp gain throughout the entire RPM range. But I had to concentrate when letting the clutch out from a stop. Too little gas and it would bog and stall, too much and I felt like an *** reving the motor. Much easier to control the launch for regular driving or dragrace with a heavier flywheel. I would only recommend a light one for a frequent roadcourse car.

Oh and you'll get more clutch chatter with a light one as well.

Well I called SPEC. They said they dont advise reusing the stock flywheel. So looks like I will be buying a new stock one or a billet steel flywheel and having everything balanced. It really never ends!!!!

I just had a Centerforce DF and Fidanza Aluminum flywheel put in my car a few weeks ago and I love it. I took the car on the "4th Annual Tri State Tuners Sonic Car Cruise" for "Make a Wish Foundation" this past Sunday and the car performed beautifully all day. I love the faster revs and the way she accelerates more quickly. No really hard driving yet due to the 450 mile break in for the clutch, but I hit the throttle a few times and she really wakes up with the new clutch and flywheel setup. No hard launches yet, but I'm sure I'll be happier than I was with the C6Z clutch and flywheel. I hated that old setup.
