Default Column lock question

yes i know theres a sticky, but havent found my situation. i have a 99 m6 and friday i went to get the car out of storage and used a jumper pack to get it started, drove the car 5 miles to home, and put a battery charger on for about 6 hours. went out to drive the car and it starts right up but displays the pull key wait 10 seconds followed by the service clb. i disconnected and replaced the battery with a new one and have the same thing going on. when i bought the car (used) the guy i got it from had a reciept from GM for the clb bypass had been done. also my column does NOT lock. i can here the motor run for a second when i cycle the key.

any ideas?

tia

If it was done by GM, it is not a CLB. They probably installed a Harness K or simply removed the locking plate (column lock motor runs but column does not lock). Both do not work or eventually fail. Install a true aftermarket CLB and remove the Harness K if you have one. Do a search on how to do the install.

I don't think that GM does a clb. They have several fixes, but I don't think they install a bypass. The GM fixes are known to fail.

My pewter frc had the GM fixes that included the extra relay on the passenger side. I could still hear the motor work when I put in the key.

I installed a CLB from Corvettes of Houston today. I made a jumper for the passenger side relay and followed the directions for the CLB installation.

I can no longer hear the motor running. That is why I don't believe that GM did a bypass.

I have an 02 that did exactly what yours is doing. I ordered the bypass from Corvettes of Houston for $50, and all the problems went away. To check to see if you do have the K harness installed (it sounds like you do being that you hear the motor running, but the column is not locking), remove the knee bolster cover (the dash cover under the column). My K harness relay was ty-rapped to the dash brace on the right side, right next to the door.
