Optima
Hey Guys,
Just got a new Optima yellow top battery for my 98 Vette. When I put it in, the alternator started squeeking and a-chirpin'. I then put the old Gold Top back in and everything was OK. With the new battery I was charging about 13.8 volts. With the old battery I was charging the same. Do I need a new alternator or what? This is the original alternator. I though I would be cool and use an Optima.

IS the new battery fully charged???? Most likely NOT. So,,the alternator is trying to jam in more amps which is call LOAD! If the belt cant keep the alternator from slipping,,,something is wrong with the belt or belt tensioner. Charge the battery fully before running the engine and see if that resolves the issue. If it does,,,,, STOP installing dead/very LOW charged batteries and change out that belt!BC
