Does anyone know who sells the steering wheel cover that laces on and how do these look and I need a torch red. Thanks jimbo
The ones you install yourself are , pretty much crap... the only way to do it right is to have it professionally done. by a company like Vette Essentials. Of course this is my opinion, but if its not atleast as good as OEM, then it's a waste of money.
If you prefer to DIY and save a lot of money, check out WHEELSKINS. They have a wide variety of colors. You take the measurements per their instructions and they custom cut the cover for you. The turn around time is just days.
Take your time, do the stitches per the instructions, align the stitches correctly and it can look very nice...
Here is a picture that Wheelskins boast as being their crowning achievement.
In my opinion, I would not put this on an 83 Monte Carlo...Of course everyone has different taste.. those stitches are suppose to be first rate yet they look like crap to me... maybe I'm too particular.I really do not want to see stitches around the wheel spokes that are an inch wide.
Here is a Vette Essentials wheel

I guess we have different tastes as well as opinions as to their DIY appearance. Obviously, they're not the quality of the $325-400+ offerings from VETTE ESSENTIALS. Not everyone wants to/can spend that type of money on their car.
Have you actually used one personally? I've used three of them in street rods and been very happy with them. I personally know many others who've used them as well.

My post was not a personal attack on you... I was only offering a comparison to the OP... personally I would never put anything that cheap looking on my car.... The first photo is right off Wheelskins website. Like I said... I would not spend 20 dollars on this cover, because its a waste of 20 dollars and would be an embarrassment to me.. but again this is just my opinion... If I could not afford to do it right, I would not waste ten dollars on something that would look this cheap. I apologize if I offended you. It was not my intent.. the OP did ask for opinions.

I put a wheelskin on My previous c4...it took both My wife and I..the binding cord is real long when you first start and it took a long time to complete....it came out incredible...I really wonder why someone would put a pic of a toyota wheel on a vette site when a vette wheel is available on the site.....there are also othe people who recover wheels at a good price and quality work....try Chuck Pelton....248.681.4336..
I just put the West Coast Corvette one on my Z16. While it may look like crap, it feels good to grip and should save the wheel from wear. The last thing the next driver of the car will want to see when getting ready to buy it, is a worn out steering wheel. Getting a new steering wheel proved impossible on my last C5. I won't be going through that search again, which failed miserably. I can't even imagine what a dealer would charge.
Yes it is ugly because to stitch it with strict discipline is a brutal process. The chord is too long and tangles like crazy whenever more than a foot of it it strewn across your cabin.
If you want to see it in Z16 colors, check out my Facebook Z16 page or I would be happy to send pics.
This will gag most of you, but when I got my C5 and found the factory steering wheel unpleasantly slick I just put one of the $10 slip-on covers on it. Yeah, they make an already thick wheel rim a little thicker, but for me the gain in "feel" was worth it. You can get them in a million styles, textures and colors, and if you decide later you don't like it, you can ditch it and not be out much $. If you want to try one, leave the cover out in the sun for a few days to minimize the rubber smell some have, then install it hot which will make it go on much easier--you really have to struggle to put one on cold, and some fit much better than others. Take it back if it doesn't fit, get another.
