I'm in the process of removing my BSM, I got one of the smaller pieces by the cove completely cleaned and noticed what looks like an indentation where the BSM was....closer inspection it looks like build up of some type... does this need to be sanded? It could be an illusion, but it looks like the paint is higher around the BSM....
That fender has probably been repainted with the moulding on.
That's what I wasn't hoping....I'll remove the other side and see if it looks the same before I slap them back on. Might be able to sand and buff it out.

It is probably a collection of calcium/lime from water over the years. My car had them too. I tried to hand buff them out with 2000 grit diamond cut polish. No joy. It had to be machine buffed out. Good luck.

Mine had the same thing. I assumed the car had been repainted but the original owner swore it wasn't. Interesting that others have had the same issue. Honestly you can't even see it unless you're looking for it and you put your face 6 inches away. So I just left it.
Well....I took it to a body shop to see what they said ( since I'm not a paint expert ) the guy said that it was just sunk into the paint over the years and should be repainted to get rid of 100%......$1k....not worth it. I'll just adapt and overcome.
Lightly rubber block wet sand the area with 1000 grit wet and dry paper being careful not to break thru the clear coat and then lightly wet sand the entire door with 2000 grit wet and dry and then polish. Most of it should go away. I removed the emblem off my ZO6 rear deck and had the same issue. Sanded and polished the area and all was great.
you should be able to get rid of it just by wet sanding with 2000 grit and then hand polishing. you probably cant even feel it with your fingernail. thats basically a rule of thumb. if you cant feel it with your fingernail, it can be polished out pretty easily. if you can still feel it that doesnt mean it cant be polished out either. i would not recommend using anything coarser than 2000 grit unless you have a decent amount of experience with prepping and polishing.

Yeah you can feel the dip in the body, it's apparently dug in. There's even a ring of reflection around the contour.... It's to late any ways, I've already stuck it back on
I have things I want to do to the entire body, so I think I'll just plan and save up for when I can get the paint - job I want. Then I'll take 1-grit to it and smile.
