I have posted before about this. But I never took a picture of it. I had a stubborn pin that had me :cuss :cuss
I decided there has to be a better way. I could get a pair of Vice-Grips on it no problem but could not get enough leverage on it pulling up. I made a slide hammer approach using a 5lb Barbell weight and a threaded Eye Bolt.
Just remove the adjusting bolt from the end of the Vice-Grips and replace it with an Eye Bolt of the same thread. But before you attach it to the vice grips put it through the hole in the barbell plate. Once attached and clamped on the pin all it takes is 2 or 3 nice raps up with the barbell plate.
here is a picture if you need 1000 more words.. :D
I clamped down on the pin with vice grips and used a screwdriver between the vice grips and the shifter to lever the pin out. I also use a small piece of wood to protect the shifter during removal. Worked like a charm and I got the tip right here on the forum.
Shows there is more than one way to skin a cat. The vice grip, screwdriver and block of wood worked fine for me. Before re-installing, I took a couple of easy swipes on the aluminum key with a fine file. It comes out a lot easier now.
Dayum chuckster, you don't mess around :D  :D
You really should try the two screwdriver method though. It has worked flawlessly for me on 7 or 8 installs. No matter how tight the pin is.
I did not like using the stock **** as a fulcrum for all that leverage. Also as mentioned some pins are jammed in tight. Mine was in so hard that after I pulled it out I could see where it was too big and they just pounded it in at the factory. There was a big mark on it. I even had to dremel it down a little just to get it to seat back in without using a pile driver. :D
Anyway. the Eye Bolt cost me $.89 and I had the barbell plate. It took exactly 2 whacks and pop!
Thank you, thank you, thank you. I just got my new shift **** last night and after a lot of swearing, I finally gave up. I'll take another crack at it tonight using this method. :)
I tried the wood block method and was too scared of damaging the stock shifter.
After I went to Sears to get a different pair of vice grips with narrower jaws, I was able to get the pin out by putting a screw driver through the vice grips and pounding up with a hammer, being careful not to hit the hammer on anything!

Can you elaborate on the "two screwdriver method "? Thanks.
