I have a 98 A4 that has recently been showing the airbag light on the dash intermittently. I was taking it to my local corvette shop anyway for a computer tune so I asked them to look into it. They were able to read the airbag module error codes and it came back with a B1015 Passenger Deploy. Loop Resistance High.
The shop first thought it may be a bad ground, but inspected it and it appears to be fine, so they say that the module is most likely bad. It turns out that the module (GM 9378281) is no longer made and pretty hard to come by these days. The shop is trying to track the module down through normal channels, but I am curious what other options I have. I asked about getting one from a junk yard, but they stated that if that module had previously deployed the airbag, it would deploy mine as soon as I turn the car on.
I have read on the various forums about people repairing things like bad ABS modules, so I am curious if anyone has the ability to fix these.
My recommendation would be to check "E A C H" connector in that circuit for corrosion. Especially the female pins. The system is discrete and does not really use chassis ground for the sensor circuits.
For the DTC to indicate excessive resistance, my guess is its repairable and the connectors need to be checked and cleaned. DO NOT use dielectric grease in the electrical connectors!!!!!! Use it on the RUBBER seals ONLY!.
MAKE SURE that you disconnect the battery and wait the correct period of time for the modules to bleed off it voltage!
Thanks Bill, you are just the man I was hoping would spot this plea for help :-) I have passed your info on the the shop and I will see what they say. They are currently waiting for a airbag specialty outfit to check the module itself, which I am told requires a special tool to do.
