This weekend my shifter in my 2001 Z06 suddenly began rattling. What is the fix? Had this in another car and fix was to install a thin nylon sheet to isloate the shifter's pivot ball from the socket.
I gather from reading other posts that the early Z06 has a solid shifter that's prone to this rattling. For the record, the car shifts beautifully and has 46K miles logged.

Reason: More info
Is stock, never has been apart, to my knowledge. Did replace an aftermarket shift **** about 10 days ago with another aftermarket **** that is a bit heavier. Rattling did not start right away, but about 5 days later.
I understand the early Z06 had a different design that doesn't use the rubber bushings that fail so often on other Vettes. Haven't pulled the shifter yet for inspection.

All C5's with manual transmissions have the same shifter. What is different in the Z06 is the mounting box. It has solid bushings where the non Z06's had rubber bushings.
A heavier **** would certainly be prone to more vibration. Go back to the other **** and see if it goes away.
Tried the old **** (which is broken, thus being replaced) and the rattling went away. Weighed both ***** and was surprised to find the old **** weighs 170 grams, the new **** just 100 grams. Increased the weight of the new **** by filling it with a sawed off bolt and JB Weld and using a heavier lock bolt. That fixed the rattling!
