I install over 2000 batteries a week and the positive is always secured first.
On a more serious note, your PCM memory is contained in a FLASH Memory Chip. Once it written, its permanent unless it over written using EFI Live, HP Tuners or the TECH II. Your tune is safe.
Disconnecting the battery can effect the PCM "LEARNED" information. Things like, Long Term Fuel Trims and Idle air adjustments. All those things will rebuild or learn with in a couple driving cycles. You may also loose some of your Set MEMORY settings and your fuel mileage information,
No such thing as a stupid question. On a side note, the first time I disconnected and reconnected my battery I got a flock of codes upon restart. Repeated the process only the second time cleaned the threads and the terminal. No codes.

WTF is a "Wold" class tech? Is that someone that flunked out of the official GM course and got a certificate online?
