Default ls2 timing chain?

since the car only has around 2500 miles on it i assume the crank and cam gear are in good shape so do i need just the chain?

I just replaced my harmonic balancer on my 02 Z06 month at 36K miles. While I had everything apart, I went ahead and replaced just the chain with the LS2 chain - it is substantially thicker side plates than the LS1/LS6 chain and fit on the original cam/crank gears and behind the timing cover with no problems.

By the way - be EXTREMELY careful when replacing the pick-up tube into the oil pump when re-assembling. I took my time and was careful, but I ended up kinking the new O ring and had to do the job all over again (had low oil pressure). It takes A LOT of oil on the O ring and gently rotating the pump to seat the pick-up tube to prevent kinking of the O ring. I highly recommend replacing the O ring, as the new ones are much thicker and less prone to leaking.

with only 2500 on it, I wouldn't touch it.

Why would you change a timing chain with 2500 miles on it?

Are you opening the motor only to change the timing chain or is the chain being removed because you are installing a cam?

If you're doing a cam then I would upgrade to the LS2 chain being how cheap they are and the fact that you have to do the labor anyways. I can't imagine you're replacing the chain and nothing else at 2500 miles.

Even at that LOW of a mileage, IF i had the engine open to some other MAINTENANCE, if I had access to the timing chain, i would go ahead and install the LS2 chain. its more heavy duty and more relieable. If your just opening the engine to replace the chaim, FORGETABOUTIT. Its just not worth the effort.
