Default Shocks?

I am going to upgrade my shocks soon and I am torn between 2 sets. I have no desire for coilovers so don't need opinions on them.

Default Bilstein

I recommend Bilstein Sports over anything else. In fact, that's what I plan to buy, eventually. Bilstein has been in the high-performance shock making business for a long, long time and ever since I installed a set on my 68, I've been a huge fan.

Stock height or lowered? I've read about the Bilsteins working better on cars that are reasonably lowered. If the car is slammed, coilovers are the only way to have good ride quality.

Bilstiein is better and will last longer. OEM shocks are a bid item for OEM's when they make the car so top notch is not what they are..

Very interesting. So the lowest bidder gets the contract? How does this work exactly?

GM goes to the manufacture and says build me a shock for this car which will have 30,000 per year for 7 years or 500,000 per year for 7 years. Same with brake calipers transmissions or anything else made outside of the OEM. GM then picks who they want to use based on performance and price. Companies even look to eliminate one screw on an auto because a car that sells a million units per year for 8 years even a screw is a big savings in labor and material.

Years ago I heard OEM's were paying as little as 9 bucks a shock on a regular passenger car. OEM shocks on any vehicle are toast in short order even a pickup truck.

" In fact, that's what I plan to buy, eventually. "

I HAVE the C6 Z shocks. Price vs PERFOMANCE,,,,, you cant go wrong with the C6 Z shocks. In fact,,,I would say 90% of the C5 ownes would be very hard presed to dstinguish the performance and ride quality between the above mentioned shocks. SAVE YOUR CASH and get the Z shocks and if you dont like them,,, post tem on the C5 parts for sale for close to the price that you got them for..

There great shocks
