Default Weird Brake Bleed Order

Does anyone know why my '02 service manual specifies bleeding the brakes: RR, LF, LR, RF?? This makes no sense.

I did mine last week and did RR, LR, RF, LF. Maybe it is a misprint.

The Helm manual for my 99 Grand Prix GTP has it in the same order. I haven't looked up the bleeding order in my 2002 vette Helm Manual, but I assume it's the same? Doesn't make sense though...I would figure it's rear then front.

I've owned cars that the manual said to bleed fronts first and I can tell you it didn't work to do it differently. Don't ask...

Sometimes the engineers really do know something we don't. Or... maybe a misprint in this case, but I've never seen any mention of it.

From the 1997-2000 GM Service Manual:

If it is necessary to bleed all of the brake calipers, the following sequence should be used:
Right rear
Left rear
Right front
Left front

But the 2001-2002 Manuals say RR, LF, LR, RF.

I would follow the Service Manual :smash:

In another post, someone stated that since 1986 GM has changed the Bleed order from model to model... so I dont think it's a typo in the '01 and '02 manual... i am just wondering WHY it's that weird order.

The only thing I can think of is that they want you to bleed the system in halves. Modern brake systems are set up in halves, with each half doing a front caliper and the opposite side rear, that way if one corner is damaged and can't build fluid pressure, the other half of the system can still work. I don't see why they'd think it was important though, to flush each half in sequence.

VW made a big fuss about the safety advantages of having diagonal split braking systems in the 70's. I guess the Corvette has the same design.
