Why do you want the widest tires? I'd want the one's that worked the best.
???????????????????: confused:
Use what you would like to use!
I have 315/30 x 18's on the back, Michelin PS2's, same wheels that you ask about, no clearance issues. Added C6-Z06 Splash Guards because they are a little bit wide.
Probably, a 305 is the widest you "should" go with a 10.5 wheel. Anything wider and you are running the risk of it coming off the wheel in hard maneuvers. Lots of people do it wider, because MOST don't push their cars past about 75% of its capability.
I had the 315/30/18s (Michelin PS2s) on my stock 02 wheels, no probs. Just "downgraded" to BFGoodrich KDWs in the stock 295/35/18 and have no complaints so far. Haven't really noticed any traction difference so far for street use. Don't look much if any narrower in reality either.
The 30- aspect ratio made the sidewalls a little shorter than the 265/40/17s up front, but there were no issues with the TCS or anything (I guess overall tire diameter was still slightly larger for the rears). I think the 295s actually look better on the car sidewall height wise compared to the stock size fronts.

315's in the rear and 295's in the front. Anyone who says you can't push it - - this is what all the autocross racers use on those rims. With sticky tires and big latteral G's, you won't find anyone anywhere pushing them more than that.
