1998 Conv. with 67,000 miles. When I try and start the car the starter continues to run even after I remove key. I just installed a new ignition switch and thought that would fix my problem. It didn't. Are there any componets other than the starter solenoid that can cause that condition?
Stater solenoid or the TDR is bad. You could also have a bad Theft Deterrent Relay. If it sticks closed, it will cause the starter to continue to run.. Its a $12.oo part
Bill, thanks. I have repaired the A/C readout, headlight gear & Ign. switch
with Info from this forum. I am still waiting for my manuals. Can you tell me the location of the TDR relay. I've only had this car for 2 weeks. The starter problem started about a week ago after a hard rain. If I wait a couple of minutes sometimes it starts normal. Would the TDR relay act like this. Is the starter hard to remove on a 1998 C5.
Older starters could stick if they needed a shim. Not sure for your case though. Likely the relay or the solenoid sticking though. It starting this after a rain would point to the starter itself.
