install procedure for rear main seal LS6
Guys how hard is it to install a rear main seal now that Im doing the clutch? My seal showed moderate signs of spray back all over the back of the block and bellhousing. Do I have to remove that rear engine cover first? I figured I might as well do it since its all apart now.

Theres a detailed procedure in the service manual. It states to NOT get any oil on the sealing lip.
Theres also a tool that guides the seal onto the crank to keep the lip from getting flipped around.
Its doable and you do not need to remove the rear cover.

The manuals are $150 from GMPartsHouse. You have no idea how valuable they are to have. Definitely worth there weight in gold..

you might want to find one of the Kent Moore LS1 kits. You can find them on the auction site.
search: KENT MOORE J-43145
just make sure the kit is complete

I found GMPP # 12614813 available online at a popular vendor. Its the rear engine cover with new bolts, cover gasket and INSTALLED rear main seal on the cover. Eliminates the expensive and hard to get J tool. $ 30 bucks.
