Default Cat back insight

Hello,

I have a stock 98 convertible (automatic) and I just picked up a used Titanium Cat Back system from a Z06 that I want to put on.

Any ideas who could do the job in the Pgh Pa area and will the car need to be retuned or is it plug and play.

Thanks,

If both (your car and the TI exhaust) are stock and unmolested it should be a straight forward replacement.

From what I've seen it not a DIY for the faint of heart unless you have a lift. You need a fair amount of clearance under the car to get the cat back off intact. 30" inches????

There are pictures of people that have done it but I wouldn't crawl under the cars with some of the rigs I've seen posted.

Any muffler shop can install it for you. Call around and find the best price.

Default cat back

Does anyone know if the titanium cat back system will be any louder than the original exhaust?

I had one on my 04 for a while and I didn't really think it sounded that much better. The advantage is the weight and the look.

I had a 98 Coupe and I HATED the looks of the OEM tips and the sound of the exhaust. I refused to pay $XXXXXXXXXXX for a damn aftermarket exhaust that drones. I installed them and never looked back!

So,, heres my take on the Ti system on my 98 coupe. DO IT! Its LIGHTER, SOUNDS BETTER ( It will NOT sound like a ZO6, but better than OEM!!) and the tips are 100% better.

They area 100% OEM bolt on up grade. They DO NOT corrode or rust. will last 100 years!

They provide a HP/Tq increase and will support significant HP Mod Increases without becoming a restriction. You will NOT be sorry you installed them!

I put the Ti exhaust on my '98 'vert, too. At the same time, I added an X-pipe and replaced the cats with free flow units. The sound is considerably louder when your foot is in it, but quiet on the highway in 5th or 6th. The X-pipe eliminated the "motorboating" and makes the sound "smoother". The cats also helped the exhaust to flow easier, and I noticed a definite increase in HP through my buttometer. Prior to doing this exhaust upgrade, I had only a Vararam VR-B2 and Power Duct with the stock exhaust. That helped get the air into the engine, but it still felt constipated in the higher rpms. With the new exhaust setup, there's a noticeable freer flow from inlet to outlet. It was like the exhaust was being strangled before. With these three pieces, it feels as if the exhaust is now matched to the intake.

I had an ECS tune done at Carlisle last year prior to the exhaust work, which helped also. After upgrading the exhaust I contacted Doug at ECS to see if I needed to have a re-tune, and he said it wasn't necessary because I'm still using my stock exhaust headers.

So, between the cats, X-pipe and Ti exhaust, I now have a freer and smoother flowing exhaust with better sound, lighter weight, nicer tips and longer life. I don't have any dyno numbers to prove it, but it feels as if I gained at least 15-20 HP.
