Dealer tells me that the Oil leak that is under my car is coming from the oil pan and they want $650 to replace the gasket. Seems expensive to me but would appreciate advice from you guys on what is the best thing to do, at this point?
Is the leak from the top or the lower side of the pan? The lower can be replaced in about 5 min. The top can be done in a couple hours. You just need to drop the cradle.
DAMN....Those stealerships must be living high On The Hog at those prices! Clean the entire under side of the engine off with some degreaser. take the car for a short drive and see where the oil is coming from. I had a simular leak and it wound up being a damper seal.
do some investiagting before you PLOP down the cash. the damn seals are very resilant. Just retorqueing the pan (in the correct torque sequence) will most likely resolve your oil pan leak SCREW THOSE HIGH PRICE SUCKERS!
Check you oil pan, single piece or double , It is not hard to change, If its the bottom pan, it takes less than a hour, I just put a new complete pan (2 piece) on in about two hours on a lift,(2 people) the pan listed for $900.00, bought a new complete pan for $500.00 , check E-Bay also, Or if it is just the bottom seal it will be fast to change, otherwise drop the complete pan and replace the top seal. you can do it yourself, helps on a lift. Good Luck.
