HP Tuners vs EFI Live Thats like which beer is best! They both do the same job. I have EFI Live and it is all that plus some. The way I picked EFI Live was; there are more people in my area that have EFI Live that I can use for tuning support. The learning curve is VERY steep!
Pick a package, if you are ready to tune. Yes it can be mastered by most, but a lot of people don't want to invest the time it takes to be proficient at it.
The best thing about tuning, is that you can change your tune for every mod you do. The tuner was my first mod, when I got my Vette, and has without a doubt been the most rewarding!
Its funny. I have an intense electronics background. I have worked on cars sinse I was 10 but yet I find it difficult to compehend TUNING. I under stand all the PCM operating requirements, how EACH Sensor works and why its there but,,, changing the parematers in the tuning software, is not easy for me. I dabble in tuning but trade mechanical and electrical repairs for GO FAST tuning assistance from knoledgeable friends.
I have no idea when you were 10, but I started working on cars in the early '60's. Then we used a timing light, and a box of jets to tune our cars.
Today it is much easier, as now you tune on the computer/laptop and just spend a few minutes to write to the car's computer and you are ready to rock and roll.

I understand what you mean, the old days all you needed was a timing light, dwell meter and a box of assorted jets for your Holley carb. We went from 3 tools to tune to 30 but you have so much more control now! I wish I had these back 30 years ago

I 'borrowed" my first car when I was 13.Been getting in trouble with cars ever since.
As far as doing some tuning these younger guys are a lot more computer oriented than us and HPTuners has great product info and tech support plus there's a bunch of very knowledgable guys on their forums that are very willing to help newbees out.
I do some of my own tuning but before I do I make sure I'm getting advice from someone who knows what he's talking about. Then I follow directions. What I can't do is come up with my own programs that some of these guys come up with, and they do it like it was no big deal!!

I will have a rebuilt 3.42 "C6 Z06" upgraded diff (shafts and cone springs for better limited slip holding) for sale for $850 in about 3 weeks
Hey guys, I'm in the far west Chicago suburbs and plan to do mods similar to magpp - less the gears and nitrous for now. Would like to find a pro to tune it for me. I'm another electronics wonk who just can't grasp "tuning". Recommendations gratefully accepted!
