I have a 98 A4 that now has a Vararam intake, low flow exhaust and a computer tune one by the local Corvette shop. Overall, I am please with the performance increase from all of these mods, but I still have a 1+ second delay from when I punch it, to when it actually really ramps up and goes. This delay does not seem to be consistent either, but is there for the most part.
I have seen mods for this issue designed for the C6, but I have not turned up much for my C5. I am asking too much to have instant or fairly close to instant response from when I floor it, to when my head snaps back?
I know exactly what your talking about. I think I remember reading that a tune will greatly reduce that. Maybe try something like an ECS Mail Order? I am going that route too this fall.
I also had high hopes for the computer tune, but the problem is still very much there, even after I got the tune done. There has to be a way to change this.
first off, get a professional tune. a mail order tune will never be the same as a professional street tune because all cars are slightly different. also from a stop or very low speeds, the vararam is going to give less throttle reponse than intake kits with less tubing, but more at speed. ported throttle body and ls6 intake manifold will also help.
Get a tune from a "seasoned" trans tuner. Mine is now set to shift gears in .2 seconds. More agressive UP and DOWN shift points. Downshifts now with far less pedal movement. Awesome stuff.

The level of "proffessionalism" of a mail order tune can be heavily swayed by the "proffessional" who is performing the tune. A mail order tune by a very experienced tuner will be spot on barring there is no problems with the vehicle, however I agree that an in person tune by an equally experienced person is always best to check the status of the vehicle in person.

I would be happy to look over your tune at our $149 special, you should not have a major hesitation. If it turns out that the tune is spot on and I cannot offer you any performance gains, just cover the shipping and I will not charge you anything.

Bluefire, what sort of shop did you have do this work, a normal speed shop or a transmission shop? That seems to be exactly what I am looking for.
Doug, from what I have been reading, this seems to be fairly common on A4's, but if I don't turn anything else up, I may take you up on your offer.
Transmission tuning is HUGE on a C5--My car gained about 3 tenths in the 1/4 with trans tuning alone without adding a single HP !!--
You need someone to read your existing tune-- typically to get faster response you should:
delete TQ mangement
Make your upshift at WOT MPH's match the Downshift MPH at WOT
Delete the PE delays
set the entire "ETC pedal TQ limit reduction table to 100%
turn the TC button OFF when making spirited runs-
most likely your tuner has already tuned all the other basics for you concerning the trans
try this 1st and report back--
Thanks for all the info folks. I have located another Corvette specialty shop here in the Denver area and they are going to do what you all have suggested. I will let you know how it turns out.
