That's exactly what mine is doing... You described it perfectly... I'm going back in today at 10:30 and I'm taking my old set of stock wheels with me. If they mess with the new tire and new wheel and vibration is still there then I'm going to have them mount the new tires on my old rear wheels and see what happens...
No, you want a dynamic balance not a static...what you are describing with only one weight set in either the center, inside or outside will NOT provide as good of a balance 99 percent of the time as a dynamic.
Spinning the tire 180 is a very common "trick"...if he's had the car in there 7-8 times and had 2 tires replaced for free due to "out of round" or whatever...I'm sure they've tried that.
I'd be curious to see if a wheel is bent somehow?? If not, throw another set of wheels/tires on it at that tire shop and see if it goes away.
If it's still there with another set of wheels, start looking somewhere else. It doesn't take 4 guys and 8 trips to the tire shop to get a tire balanced. lol
After the 3rd time...they should have already done most of what has been said here. and they should have tech on the car with 5 yrs experience at least imo
At some point I'm going to have to cut my losses with Discount Tire and take it somewhere else and see if the results are the same. Believe me I'm getting tired of seeing my car on jacks for 45 min and then driving it with the same result...
Latest update from my trip to Discount Tire... Took the car in this morning and told them that I wanted it fixed today. I told them I wanted all 4 wheels and tires taken off checked for round and Road Force balanced... I watch the guy take my front wheels down to the machine as far from me as he could get then they have a conference in the shop about them. Finally sales guy comes out and asks me if I have hit anything. I told him no that I haven't anything then he proceeds to tell me that both of my front wheels are bent. So I asked why it was that I was feeling the vibration in my seat instead of the steering wheel. He said that the vibration may have been going through the frame???? Then I said awesome so you are going to put two new wheels on the car and I should be good to go? He said well I have to wait until Friday when the store manager comes back in to see what he wants to do... At this point I nearly lost my mind!!! I told him that I have been coming here since the day I had these wheels and tires put on the car for this problem and now you are telling me that I hit something??? I asked him is the front end of my car torn off because in order to bend both front wheels I would have had to hit something mighty hard to do that.....
Now I'm waiting till Friday to hear what the verdict is... For their sake I hope they come up with the right answer on Friday or else there may be some ...

Well, I sure would like to see some photos of your wheels and tires. I want to make sure I don't select the same ones when I go to replace mine in the near future.
I hate to say it.....but I was right. I wish I wouldve been wrong....
Since they were bought brand new and I've had the vibration since the beginning and they know that I hope they do the right thing and replace the wheels. I was headed that direction too just couldn't or better didn't want to believe that brand new wheels would be bent...
If you came back very soon after they first mounted your tires on the new wheels that you bought there...they know.
Discount tire is a pretty big corporation. Americas tire is the same thing. You shouldn't have an issue getting the new wheels exchanged BUT it is odd that the two fronts BOTH were bent. Usually a bent wheel is due to someone dropping it somewhere along the line...NOT a manufacturing defect believe it or not.
It's odd that they may have dropped 2 of the exact same size and dropped both the same way( a wheel dropped on the face for example wouldn't bend if you dropped it from 10 feet on to concrete)...
still, if you had the wheels put on, jumped on the highway and came back the same day or day after...there should be no issue. it's not like Discount tire loses money...they ship the wheels back and get another set.
and the reason that they rolled the tires away from you like you were saying to have their little "meeting"...is because they assume that because both wheels are bent, that you bumped a curb dead on or something to that effect. I'm not saying you did by any means just helping you to be prepared after working for a tire shop for 5 years

The secret they don't know is I too am a Service Manager so I know all of their reindeer games...
Hi There,
Well I guess you found out.
Discount tire is managed by idiots & have morons installing & thinking they know how to balance tires. To the other poster: Tires do not ever need a wear in period & then require a re- balance. This is BS!
The store manager will put the blame on you & say you bent the wheels to back up what his sales person said. I hate to say it I think you bought brand new(repo's) wheels that were bent from the factory. The factory never tests for run out on the wheels. They let the customer be the guinea pig or in other words you do the testing for them.
If the store manager wants to remain the manager he will have the wheels replaced with out a problem. If you have another set of wheels & tires to put on. I would take the car home & mount them, until this is resolved.
BTW: Who did the axle seal change?

Unfortunately I found this out the hard way.... I agree with your statement whole heartedly... Lucky for me the store manager drives a Vette too so I may be able to talk sense into him... I have another set of wheels but they kept my tires.... Otherwise I would have put them on a long time ago.. I will settle for nothing less than having the wheels replaced.
As for the Axle seal change I had the dealership do it and boy did they stick it to me for that!! If I had a lift at home I would have done it myself because I'm pretty sure they screwed it up... I now have a click in my drivers side rear wheel when accelerating and letting off.. I luckily read on hear what that problem and resolution is so as soon as I can get the wheel/tire problem fixed I'm going back to them to fix that problem the right way too...
So far I've spent a ton of money and all I have gotten is heartache.. However every time I look at my car or drive my car no matter the vibration or the clicking I have a smile face from ear to ear... The only thing that comes close to that enjoyment is a good ride on my Harley.

Hi There,
Usually the steering wheel is where the shimy is felt from a tire being out of balance.Never had a wheel out of round.I would think the whole car would vibrate on one side or the other. I would read the shop manual & see if you are required to index(mark) the axle shaft before removing.Maybe that problem has to be addressed before the wheel & tires.Let us know whats going on.All the best.

Crisis averted.... Went to Discount Tire expecting a knock down drag out and to my surprise the sales guy met me at the door and said they are going to take care of my problem. Saw the store manager and he drives a black C6 (I won't hold that against him) we started talking and he said that they had called him earlier this week and that he told them to just take care of it. He went as far as to mount new set of used wheels and tires on my car so I could keep it while they sent my wheels off.. Should have my wheels and tires back on the car middle of next week. I will update all as to the vibration whether it's gone or not then!!!
Thanks for all the advice!!! Have a Great Weekend!!!

Excellent! Did the "loaner wheels" correct the vibration?
Hi There 01 Indy Vette,
Gad to hear some good news about your situation. If you still have the vibration then there was a goof on the axle seal repair.
