There's a lot of variance in there depending on what lifter, cam base circle, and how the heads are setup. Your best bet is to spend $20 on the pushrod length checker and measure to ensure you put the right pushrod in the motor.
Since I went with after-market rockers, I set valve wipe 1st.
Then, on to pr length. I used the adj checker from Comp. I measured while using the old head gasket, it mic'd out at .050 and I snugged down just the cylinder I was checking. After several checks and re-checks on the intake and exhaust valves, I measured 7.331. I used new lifters and used test springs also so not to collapse lifter. Big meat hooks I have for fingers prevented me from using the length checker as intended. So I did it the long way, remove rockers and set length, re-install and check for free-play at valve. Then I'd remove and check overall length with a set of vernier calipers. It was alot more tedious but there was no way I was getting my fingers in the area to adjust the checker while it was buttoned down. 7.331 and my 7.4 prods measured 7.411 with same caliper, giving me an exact .080 lifter pre-load.
