wide tires??

Ok, I’m going to tag on to this post as I’m totally confused on tires and wheels and what will work and what won’t. Hope the OP doesn’t mind.
I currently have stock wheels and tires on my 2000 Z51 Coupe. I don’t want to cut it close on clearance but if I can fit somewhat wider but also maintaining the same outside diameter as stock would be a good thing, I think. I plan on purchasing new wheels too. As far as tire performance, I want something that has good dry and wet road performance. Descent wear life and quiet tread noise. I have separate wheels and tires for track use, so having ultimate road performance in this new set of tires isn’t really needed.
Can someone suggest what size tires and what size wheels would work best?
I need to do something soon, as I’m running right now with a plug in the rear tire after pulling out a two inch nail! Man, the Z rated tires really hold onto nails! I thought I would get a hernia trying to pull it out!
